"We thought we should do something after the last of our funerals," Mannion said. The monument's cross came from Cure of Ars'
recent renovation work, and the wording on the monument, Mannion said, is from a book of Jewish prayers that he had as a chaplain.
It is chilling to read the so many names on the monument: Brian
Sweeney, Farrell and Sean Lynch, David Grimner, Ronnie Geis, Thomas Crotty and Andrew Stern.
The monument's prayer, Mannion said, is "a way for us to remember their lives and challenge us to always live with integrity."
Mannion added, "Some of the families never recovered their loved one. This is the first time many of them saw their loved one's name in stone."
Mannion hopes the monument offers some closure for the families.
