As Easter weekend approached, New York State Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-14th AD) announced that he was sponsoring an Easter basket giveaway for children in the area.

Under the program, Curran collected more than 200 Easter baskets that were handed out to children in the pediatric units of Mercy Medical Center and South Nassau Communities Hospital. The baskets were donated for distribution to children through village-based organizations including the Hispanic Brotherhood, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, St. Agnes Community Center and St. Agnes Cathedral School, as well as other local groups that included the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Christopher’s Church in Baldwin, the Freeport PTA and Our Lady of Peace Church in Lynbrook.

“Easter is a time when people celebrate their faith, and Easter baskets have become one of many symbols of this religious season,” said Curran. “With the economy still in recession, there are numerous families still struggling financially. Hopefully, this program will get Easter baskets to kids who otherwise would not have received anything this year.”
