Davison Avenue unveils Explore Zone in Malverne

Following the successful launch of Mission Explore last year, Malverne’s Davison Avenue Intermediate School Principal Rachel Gross decided to take it to the next level. During the summer, the district’s maintenance crew helped to revamp a formerly underutilized space into an Explore Zone. The area will be used for indoor, supervised play during indoor recess days and as part of the Mission Explore initiative.

Mission Explore is a kindergarten through fifth-grade initiative that provides students with mindful, purposeful, structured and supervised play sessions throughout the nine-period school day. Benefits include improved socialization and collaboration skills, encouraging curiosity and creating better focus and performance in the classroom.

The new indoor Explore Zone includes many lo-tech games such puzzles and LEGOs. It was unveiled to students at a ribbon-cutting held during Davison Avenue’s annual Welcome Back BBQ on Sept. 7.
