A young person was killed by an eastbound LIRR train at the Rockville Centre station on Friday at about 12:45 p.m. The age, gender and identity of the victim had not been released by 3 p.m. by authorities.
The engineer of the train apparently tried to stop, but it was too late as the 12-car train made it about halfway into the station before it came to a halt. Authorities rushed to the scene and cordoned off the western end of the platform. Passengers on the train were eventually allowed to get off and were picked up by a following eastbound train that came into the station on the opposite track, # 1, that is usually resereved for westbound trains.
