Dental office collects a thousand pounds of candy for the troops

Dr. Barry Silverman, at top left, a dentist with offices in Bellmore and Bayside, collected more than a thousand pounds of candy for the troops overseas through a buyback program that he sponsored during the Halloween season. Joining in the effort were his fellow dentists, Dr. Laura Sotomayor, in the white coat beside Silverman, and Dr. Matthew Siegel, on the floor, along with staff members.

This past Halloween season, Silverman and Associates, LLP Family Dentistry, which has offices in Bellmore and Bayside and is headed by Dr. Barry Silverman of Merrick, sponsored a candy buyback for which the dental office paid for candy by the pound and shipped it to U.S. troops serving overseas through Operation Gratitude. In recent weeks, Silverman and Associates collected more than 1,000 pounds of candy for the troops. According to Geri Silverman, the office’s marketing manager, local schools and a Brownie troop joined in the effort.
