"Swim Across America"


On Saturday, August 20, approximately 150 swimmers of all ages will enter Long Island Sound from Morgan Park in Glen Cove to swim and raise funds to both assist in funding the "M.I.R.A.C.L.E. (Making Inroads Against Cancer's Lasting Effects) Building," the new expanded home of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center in Nassau County, and the Swim Across America Lab at MSKCC in New York City.The Swim Across America "Sound to the Cove-Swim to Fight Cancer" is a family-oriented swim. Swimmers can choose between the one-mile swim, the 5K (3.1 mile) swim, and a 10K swim across Long Island Sound, which begins in Larchmont and ends in Glen Cove. For this event swimmers must raise a minimum of $5,000, while one-mile and 5K swimmers must only collect $500 to participate. McInerney wins EMS leadership Award


Joan McInerney, MD, FACEP, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center has been selected to receive the Nassau Regional Emergency Medical Services Council's 2004 "EMS Leadership" award at a dinner scheduled at the Coral House on October 27, 2005. Dr. McInerney will be presented with a certificate of commendation for her exemplary service and for her commitment to the emergency medical services in the Nassau region.Established in 1993, the Regional EMS Council is responsible for coordinating emergency medical services within Nassau County.  The thirty members of the Regional EMS Council are comprised of active EMS providers, hospital based professionals and representatives of other important aspects of EMS communication and disaster management. Daniel A. Kane, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, congratulated Dr. McInerney for her commitment to excellence, for being a vital asset to the surrounding communities, and for her dedication to the quality of care rendered to the residents of Nassau County. Dr. McInerney is board certified in Emergency Medicine and in Internal Medicine.  She trained at New York Medical College in their Fifth Pathway Program and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at the City Hospital Center at Elmhurst. A former member of the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine as a clinical assistant, Dr. McInerney, is now a member of the faculty of the School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook as an Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine.  She was guest of the US Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, North Carolina where she participated in Domestic Preparedness Training in 1998.  She continues to be involved in Domestic Preparedness and pre hospital care through the Nassau Region EMS Medical Advisory Committee.
