According to the Association of School Business Officials International, the district has provided a high-quality Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year.
The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Program was designed by ASBO International to enable school districts to achieve a high standard of financial reporting. The award, the highest recognition for school district financial operations offered by ASBO, is only conferred to school systems that have met or have exceeded the standards of the program.
This is the third year that the school district received the CAFR Award. A few districts in New York state have been recognized with the award. ASBO officials released the following statement: ³By preparing and presenting a CAFR, the East Meadow Union School District validated the credibility of its school systems operations, measured the integrity and technical competence of the business staff, assisted in strengthening its presentations for bond issuance statements, and provided professional recognition.²
Deborah Coates, president of the Board of Education, said, ³This is the third consecutive year that the district has been recognized for outstanding budgeting and full disclosure reporting. We have an excellent business staff. Every member of our team deserves credit for a job well done. The community and its taxpayers are beneficiaries of the dedication and competence of our employees.²
Leon Campo, superintendent of schools, added, ³We work very hard to deliver our best for the taxpayers and children. It is wonderful that our efforts have been recognized by this nationally respected organization. It is pleasure to work with a competent staff that is dedicated to high-quality performance, financial transparency and honesty. This award represents applause for these dedicated employees.²
