The improvement is being credited to the district's teachers and the implementation of the new ELA Action Plan.
In 2005-2006, 76.78 percent of students, from grades 3 to 8, met or exceeded the state's ELA standard. In 2006-2007, however, 83.06 percent of students met or exceeded the standards. This was an overall improvement of 6.28 percent.
"We are extremely pleased with the progress students have made," Leon Campo, deputy superintendent of the East Meadow School District, said. "We are particularly satisfied with the test scores at eighth grade, because it shows that students are ready for high school."
