Lynbrook resident Dominick Anastasio, second from right, was recently honored for 26 years of service to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation during a retirement celebration on March 18. Queens Borough Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski and Chief of Operations Jackie Langsam presented Anastasio with a plaque to mark his retirement from the Parks Department. The parks supervisor spent his entire department career in the borough of Queens.
Anastasio, a graduate of Lynbrook High School, played football for the Owls in the late 1970s. He is a loyal Mets fan who glowingly recalls going on the Shea Stadium field each year displaying his team pride for Banner Day. Fittingly, the retirement celebration was held at the Pine Restaurant in Corona, Queens, just across the parkway from Citi Field and the “ghost” of Shea Stadium.
A group of friends, colleagues and family members were on hand to congratulate Anastasio, including his wife of 26 years, Debbie, far left, and their two children, Dominick, 22 and Debbie, 25. He was also joined by his father, Jerry Anastasio, his three sisters, Denise, Lisa and Rosie and his nephew, Joseph.
