Domino's robbed at gunpoint

Police said that at 11:45 p.m., a man entered Domino's and looked at the menu on the counter. He then produced a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk, a 17-year-old employee. The store manager quickly came to the counter and gave the suspect an unknown amount of cash from the register.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot, heading southbound on School Street. The man is described as a black male wearing a hooded gray sweatshirt and blue hat.
Employees were not injured during the incident, police said.
Police who were in the area witnessed someone fitting the description of the suspect behind the Grand Avenue School.
"They [police] got there quickly and apparently someone observed [the suspect] behind the Grand Avenue school," said Detective Sgt. Roy Gorddard.
A brief foot pursuit ensued, but police were unable to apprehend the suspect. But they did recover a blue hat, which will be used for DNA analysis, said Gorddard.
"All they could do is ID it, but if we don't have anything on file, we'll keep it and try to compare it in the future," Gorddard said.
Gorddard also explained that video surveillance is also being analyzed and enhanced by the First Precinct's electronics unit.
This is the third armed robbery to occur in the area this month. On April 8, the Northfork Bank at 1800 Grand Avenue was robbed, as was Burger King at 2125 Grand Avenue.
Gorddard stressed that there has not been a spike in armed robberies within the First, and that the incidents are not related.
"We don't have a pattern with this," said Gorddard.
