Meanwhile, the Elmont Memorial Spartans (4-2) kept their postseason hopes alive with a victory over perennial doormat Bellmore JFK, 26-13. The H. Frank Carey Seahawks (2-4), seeded No. 2 at the outset of the season, dropped out of the playoff picture after a 34-6 whipping at the hands of MacArthur.
The Rams find themselves in a pack of five teams with identical record behind Conference III leader Bethpage (7-0). The Golden Eagles slowed West Hempstead's star back, Obozua "Bo" Ehikioya, "holding" him to 99 yards on 24 carries.
The Rams travel to Valley Stream South this Saturday, with the kickoff set for 2 p.m.
For Elmont, the road to the playoffs runs through powerhouse MacArthur (6-1), which comes to Elmont this Saturday at 2 p.m. The Spartans took care of business last week against winless Bellmore JFK. Wide receiver Dominick Dixon racked up 250 yards and three touchdowns, including an 82-yard punt return in the second quarter.
Andre Forbes capped the scoring for Elmont by returning an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback George Santiago connected with Dixon on a pair of 20-yard throws.
The Carey Seahawks came across MacArthur a week after its first and only loss this season, which was probably a bad time to do so. The Seahawks took an early 6-0 lead on a pass by quarterback T.J. Lopez, but after having the extra point blocked, failed to score the rest of the game. MacArthur scored 34 unanswered points.
Though out of the hunt at 2-4, Carey can still play spoiler, traveling to Hewlett on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
The Indians of Sewanhaka (3-3-1) have a shot at going over .500 for the season this weekend, when they finish up at Jericho on Saturday at 2. The Indians demolished the defense of Great Neck North, 42-27, as senior quarterback Dexter McRae ran, tossed and returned his way to three touchdowns, including starting the second half with a 79-yard kickoff return. Greg Steward caught a TD pass and ran one in in the first quarter, finishing the day with 98 yards, eight tackles and an interception.
The Valley Stream North Spartans (2-5) fell to North Shore 25-13 after falling behind 19-0 after three quarters. The Spartans wrap up their season at home against Cold Spring Harbor on Saturday at 2.
