Drug Take-Back Day Sept. 29 in Rockville Centre

The Rockville Centre Police Department will partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in sponsoring a prescription drug “Take-Back Day” on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters, 34 Maple Ave.

The department will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications for safe disposal. The service is free and anonymous — no questions asked.

The DEA warns that many medicines left in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. In addition, many people do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicines, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.

Residents are urged to bring their old medicines to police headquarters on Sept. 29.
