The suspects were identified as Steve Marthone, 23, of Vanderveer Street in Queens, and Freddie Anderson, 22, of Beach 120th Street in Far Rockaway, police said.
According to detectives at the 4th Squad, the suspects approached the 52-year-old attendant at Gas Stop, 471 Burnside Ave., on July 19 at 2:10 a.m. and announced a robbery. Anderson allegedly pulled out a silver handgun and demanded money from the victim, who then handed over less than $100 in cash, said Detective Sgt. Ronald Nesbitt of the 4th Squad. Both suspects then ran out of the station and escaped in a Nissan Altima, police
said. The victim was not injured, police added.
The victim called 911 and 4th Precinct police officers responded to a description of the getaway car, stopping the vehicle on Doughty Boulevard, near Burnside Avenue, detectives said.
Apparently, the gas station attendant got the info [on the car and suspects] and called 911 with the info, said Nesbitt. Police officers did a canvass of the area and stopped the car, and eventually placed the subjects under arrest.
Both suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Anderson was also charged with first-degree criminal use of a firearm, police said.
Both were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
