Dwyer wins Library seat

Posted
Dwyer captured 165 of the 505 write-in votes cast, easily beating the second-highest vote-getter, former library Trustee Susan Stark.
The write-in election was necessary, because nobody filed a petition by the filing deadline last month. The election was the first of its kind in memory.
A total of 48 different names were written in, some illegibly, some nonsensically. It appears that most people played it straight with their votes: no obviously Bart Simpson-esque names were written in... except maybe for "Peter Griffin." No Peter Griffins could be found in the phone book, and Griffin is the name of the protagonist on the Fox television cartoon "The Family Guy."
Following are the vote totals, as provided by the Long Beach Library. The spellings are as they were provided:
Kathleen Dwyer, 165; Susan Stark, 92; S. O'Deary, 55; R. MacKenzie, 53; Siegfried Adler, 44; Carol Arnone, 33; Carl Weinstock, 8; Cecilia Post, 6; Carmine Convertino, 4; Carol Altruda, 3; Gabriel K. Libbey, 3; Stella Ryan, 2; Karin Sheehy, 2.
The following received one vote each: Fran Adelson, Linda Berkowitz, Bob Carroll, "Carsi...," Michael Cassidy, Barbara Collins, Michael Connelly, John Curry, MM DeLuca, "Edelman," Helen Elovich, Tom Flood, "Gallagher," Ed Gloeggler, Dale Greenstein, Peter Griffin, D. Hoffman, Scott Lazare, "Mrs. Lester," Frank McQuade, Raymond Mitchell, "Monahan," "Mowry," Cathy Muse, Sara Nicholas, Jordan Price, John Robeson, Michael Robinson, M. Shay, Robert Solomon, Robert Tepper, Lisa Tutin, Michael Weitz, Astrid Wood, "Zangand."
