A man in Long Beach has died after being hit by an e-bike while crossing the street on East Park Avenue by Riverside Boulevard Friday night.
Police found the 68-year-old man lying in the road with a head injury. The Long Beach Fire Department took the man to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday night. The driver of the e-bike remained on scene.
"E-bike and scooter operators need to exercise the same level of caution and safety as the operators of any other motorized vehicle," City Council President Brendan Finn said. "While these vehicles can be a great alternative mode of transportation, they can also, as we unfortunately see in this instance, prove just as dangerous as your normal car."
An investigation is still ongoing.
