East Meadow High School: Thinking green
Another group analyzed Disney's recent efforts to promote "green" lifestyles in movies, shows and in the parks and stores. Next to them, a team showed off three bags filled with collected water bottles. They demonstrated how those bottles could be reused for other purposes.
McVey students also enjoyed a coloring station, where the paper was then used at the next table to create a paper mache-like material courtesy of the AP Environmental Science class.
The fair was deemed a success, and it will now become an annual Earth Day tradition at East Meadow High School.
Jill Goldfarb, an EMHS senior and secretary for the Environmental Club, spearheaded the creation of the Earth Fair with fellow officers. She said the aim was to spread awareness of "green" methods, and to also teach peers and younger students the importance of keeping the environment in mind.
"It's important to get the message across that you don't have to be too old or too young," Goldfarb said. "We need to start educating them at a young age."
