East Meadow is united in kindness

Posted

The East Meadow School District and its PTA Council celebrated Unity Day during the week of Oct. 19. Part of Bullying Prevention Month, the day aims to promote kindness, acceptance and taking a stance against bullying.

Students were encouraged to wear orange as a symbol of unity. Classes read encouraging books, took part in meaningful conversations and discussed how to promote antibullying. In addition, each school in the district participated in a food drive to benefit Island Harvest.

Every year, the East Meadow art department and the district’s PTA Council collaborate on a district-wide Unity Day mural. This year, students signed their names on different colored pieces of paper, which will be assembled into a symbolic rainbow at the Leon J. Campo Salisbury Center.
