The event was founded in 1992 by then Town of Hempstead Supervisor Greg Peterson, who wanted to give area residents a special day to celebrate the good things found in East Meadow.
³[Pride Day] is a unique opportunity to learn about the businesses, community groups, civic associations, youth groups and schools in our area,² Peterson said.
Close to 50 local businesses and organizations participated in the event.
