The salutatorian of the East Rockaway High School Class of 2012 is Sarah Reid. A scholar with a cumulative G.P.A. of 103.64, an athlete, a leader and a talented vocalist, Sarah will leave a lasting legacy.

Sarah’s academic achievements include numerous awards and achievement certificates, recognition as an AP Scholar, and membership in the National Honor Society. She has embraced all the academic opportunities available to her and has looked beyond the high school for additional possibilities for growth. In doing so, Sarah chose to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Georgetown University during the summer of 2009 and volunteered in the neonatal unit of the University of Connecticut’s John Dempsey Hospital during the summer of 2010. Reflecting on her entire academic experience, Sarah said: “I attribute a lot of my success to the support of my family. My parents have always encouraged me to explore new things and have instilled in me a love of learning that will continue to fuel my academic and personal endeavors for years to come.”

Beyond the classroom, Sarah can be found on stage. Performing lead roles in East Rockaway High School’s musical, the annual “Rock Rivalry” entrance, and “Broadway by the Bay,” Sarah has demonstrated remarkable vocal talent and has served as a valuable role model to students who want to follow in her dancing footsteps. Her memories will last a lifetime as well.

“My involvement with the music department has been such an important part of my high school experience that it is hard to say goodbye,” said Sarah. “I’m so grateful that despite our school’s small size, I have had the privilege of performing alongside so many talented people over the past four years.”

Sarah also has found time to serve as leader in the school as an active member of the Key Club, Mock Trial, Tri M Music Honor Society and Secretary of the National Honor Society. She also is an athlete who has been an integral part of the varsity volleyball team’s success. Additionally, Sarah has dedicated countless hours to service opportunities in the community, is a member of the East Rockaway Junior Fire Department and is a Certified First Responder.
