Eddie died suddenly at his East Rockaway home on October 24, at the age of 47.
A lifelong resident of East Rockaway, Eddie attended Rhame Avenue Elementary School and was a 1975 graduate of East Rockaway High School. He was an avid bowler, starting out in the PBC ranks as a young boy and later starring as a member of East Rockaway High School's championship teams. But it was on the basketball courts of Rhame Avenue and the John Street Complex where Eddie was best known. His incredible ball handling skills and uncanny bank shots were endlessly talked about in local basketball lore.
Peter Carroll, a friend since kindergarten, fondly recalls their early days together. "We hung out on Second Avenue, every day. Eddie, Hank Benning, Bob Smith, Glen and Herb Levison and I would play punch ball, stoop ball, stickball, etc.," said Carroll. "I never met anybody in my life that could say anything bad about Eddie. He epitomized the citizens of East Rockaway -- kind, humble people living in a quaint, unassuming community, always looking out for one another. I will miss him dearly."
He is survived by his wife Lisa and daughter Jennifer. He is the son of Dolores and the late John Rose.
Rose was buried on October 28, at Pinelawn Memorial Park after a service at the Perry Funeral Home in Lynbrook.
