Eileen Lerch, of East Rockaway, died at her home on February 26. She was 77.

Lerch was a resident of East Rockaway for the last 34 years, and was married to Peter Lerch, who died in March of 1987.

Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her, and she was often heard bragging about them and sharing photos of them. She also loved animals, and had a beloved Corgie, Foxy, whom she rescued three years ago. She was known to carry dog treats in her pockets because, she said, “you never know when you will run into a dog who wants a treat.”

Lerch was a member of the East Rockaway and Oceanside Senior centers, where she met many wonderful friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. She also served as Vice President of the East Rockaway Center, where she met her best friend, Lucille Fox. They became known as “Ethel and Lucy,” and “Double Trouble,” sharing many fun moments together.

“She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and knew how to have a good time,” said her daughter, Patty Seifert. “She will be greatly missed. We also wish to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.”

Perry Funeral Home handled arrangements. Interment was with her husband and son at Long Island National Cemetery Pinelawn.

Lerch was the mother of the late Peter Jr., Thomas, Eileen Holton (Charley), Cindy Vetrano (Anthony), Patty Seifert (Tom), John (Violet) and Gerry. She was the cherished grandmother (“Nan”) to 12 grandchildren: Kerri Gonzalez (Jason), Kristi and Ralph DeName, Peter, Tommy and Erin Lerch, Danny Miller, Megan Vetrano, Katie and Matt Seifert, and Haley and Lauren Lerch.
