East Rockaway runs car wash for a cause

Barbara Stern stopped by East Rockaway High School to thank the students — and to get a car wash — for their help in raising funds for the Andrew J. Stern Memorial Scholarship that is awarded to two outstanding graduates each year.

  The scholarship was initially funded by a student car wash after the attacks of September 11, 2001, in which Andrew, a 1979 graduate of East Rockaway High School, perished while at work for Cantor Fitzgerald. 

  “I want to thank the wonderful teenagers from East Rockaway High School who conducted the car wash to perpetuate the Andrew Stern Scholarships so that, along with the Stern Family Memorial Essay Contest, we continue to keep Andy’s memory at ERHS alive and make certain that none of those who were killed on that horrific day are ever forgotten,” said Stern.
