Eat, shop, get your car towed?

The towing has become such a serious concern that Hempstead Town Councilman Anthony Santino sent a letter, which includes a petition tear-off, to Baldwin residences to make sure they are aware of the situation. In the letter, he wrote that the town “has no authority over the situation” but that he has contacted the landlord of the shopping center to investigate. More than 450 residents have submitted petitions thus far.

The landlord did not immediately return an e-mail request for comment, but in a letter to the town, stated that there are signs in the lot clearly stating that residents are not permitted to park there if they are doing business elsewhere. He said that many Long Island Rail Road commuters and Baldwin Post Office patrons use the lot, and that the tow company has a right to enforce the rules in that situation.
