Edith Savino, the first woman Exalted Ruler in the 132-year history of the Elks' first lodge, New York No. 1 in Valley Stream, was honored on Saturday night, September 16, for her service to the lodge off Rockaway Avenue. Formerly the Valley Stream Lodge, it merged recently with the Elks' founding lodge, N. Y. No. 1, and Ms. Savino has been its leader for the past year.
The testimonial dinner dance was well attended, and the Elks and their guests celebrated both Ms. Savino's year of service and the N.Y. Lodge's new leader, Exalted Ruler Noel Wangenstein.
