East Rockaway native Eileen M. Verity was among those honored by Long Island Business News at their 12th annual “40 Under 40” induction gala held Jan. 27 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
The award program recognizes 40 business and community leaders under the age of 40 who are shaping Long Island’s future. Awardees represent a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, government, education, law, banking, not-for-profits and the tech industry.
Verity is Director of Senior Services and Nutrition Programs for Catholic Charities of Rockville Centre, and also serves as the Emergency and Disaster Response Coordinator for Catholic Charities. She works closely with Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management and has helped establish one of the first emergency shelters for people with special needs as well as the county’s Point of Dispensing Plan, which would distribute medication in the event of a pandemic outbreak. Her experience has led to her training various organizations across the United States in emergency response and serving as a coordinator during the 2008 floods in Des Moines, Iowa.
Verity is a graduate of East Rockaway High School and earned her undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s from Columbia University and a juris doctor from the New England School of Law. She is chair of the Aging Committee for the New York State Catholic Conference and is co-chair of the Nassau County Senior Services Provider Coalition.
