Early investigations indicate the incident was gang related

A 15-year-old has died, and two others were injured, following a shooting on April 15 in Eisenhower Park.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the East Meadow park's Field 2, according to police reports, near Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue.

At a police briefing in the park last night, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said early investigations revealed that the incident was tied to a gang meetup, according to an invite shared on social media.

A group of people assembled in the park for a “barbecue,” Ryder said, when an argument started and shots were fired. Three people were hit, he said. The 15-year-old male victim died at a hospital from his injuries.

The other victims, two males, ages 28 and 31, are in critical condition.

“We currently have two people under arrest, both recovered with weapons,” Ryder said at the overnight press conference. “We have two people with guns that have been arrested.”

No charges for those arrested were announced as the investigation continued to develop on Thursday.

The identity of the teenager killed has not yet been revealed. Police officers are continuing to patrol the park and the area the shooting occurred.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call 911. Callers will remain anonymous.
