More than 850 voters turned out on March 15 to cast ballots for three Valley Stream officials who ran unopposed in the village election.
Village Justice Virginia Clavin-Higgins became the first woman to be elected to the position in the village’s history. She was appointed in December to replace longtime Justice Robert Bogle after he was elected to a Nassau County judgeship in November. Clavin-Higgins will finish the four-year term Bogle was elected to last March, which ends in 2019.
Trustee John Tufarelli received 819 votes. Trustee Sean Wright received 778. Wright, a former village attorney was appointed by Mayor Ed Fare to the vacancy left by Clavin-Higgins’s appointment as Bogle’s replacement. The trustees serve four-year terms.
