In the past, teams from as far as Bermuda and Canada have participated. This year, more than 7,300 players played, arriving from Canada, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, upstate New York, New York City, and Nassau and Suffolk counties. The tournament utilized more than 15 playing sites throughout Long Island.
This year, organizers introduced their inaugural Covanta Cup Flight for some of the best high school teams in the area. The winners in both the boys and girls Covanta Cup Flights had their names engraved on the Covanta Cup. In addition, a $500 college scholarship was awarded to the most outstanding player in each respective final match, which was played on the newly constructed turf field at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
