An East Meadow native has been tabbed to head the Diocese of Rockville Centre school system.

The diocese announced on Feb. 25 that Christopher Marblo will become the chief executive officer of the Education Corporation on July 1, which provides services, support and guidance to its more than 30,000 students.

Marblo will assume the newly created position on July 1, at which time Sister Joanne Callahan, the superintendent of the diocese since 1993, will become the Diocesan Secretary of Education.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre comprises 47 Catholic elementary schools, 10 high schools, and one college.

Marblo, who has a degree in literature and human thought from the College of St. Rose in Albany and a master’s degree in humanities from New York University, has worked as an administrator in multiple schools, including the Town School of New York City, the Kent School in Maryland, the Haverford School in Philadelphia and the Albany Academy.

He is currently the president of the Arts Center of the Capital Region in upstate Troy, where he lives with his family.

“I am very happy to return to my roots on Long Island and in Catholic education,” Marblo said in a press release. “I look forward to working with the diocesan community to ensure that the long and highly-effective history of Catholic education continues to unfold in powerful ways and provide a model for 21st century teaching and learning.”

Marblo was selected by a search committee that included various Catholic school officials throughout Long Island.

“I am most grateful to the search committee for its hard work,” said Bishop William Murphy. “I look forward to Chris’s counsel on enhancing our schools so we can ensure they deliver the best education possible in an increasingly competitive and cost-competitive market.”
