Embracing our differences in Rockville Centre

Posted

An image created by South Side High School student artist Deanna Mostowfi was recently included in an exhibition called “Embracing Our Differences,” an international outdoor art exhibit and contest.

The exhibit featured 39 billboard-size images created by professional artists and art students around the world. Deanna’s work was chosen from thousands of entries, including submissions from adult artists from 48 different countries and 29 states. Each artist was asked to interpret the message, “enriching lives through diversity.”

The exhibit has been traveling to various locations since 2004 and has been viewed by more than 850,000 visitors. Deanna, at left, visited her work in Sarasota, Fla. where this year’s exhibit was held.

Heather Toomey, Deanna’s high school art teacher, said the exhibit has a very powerful and positive message and to be chosen is an honor. “I am extremely proud of her,” said Toomey. “I am proud that such a wonderful student at South Side High School got to represent the community and school in an international exhibit through her beautiful artwork.”
