The new ambulance was made possible by a $175,000 state grant secured by Sen. Kemp Hannon, a Republican of Garden City.
East Meadow Fire Commissioner Robert W. Beck said, "In the event of the fifth anniversary of 9/11, we are grateful for this new ambulance, which will enable us to save lives in East Meadow."
Richard M. Bivone, president of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce and an East Meadow resident, added, "What the senator has done is a true sign of protecting life in East Meadow and I'm proud to have him represent us."
Also present at the dedication were Gregory Peterson, former Town of Hempstead supervisor; Town of Hempstead Councilman Gary Hudes; Nassau County Legislator Norma Gonsalves; the acting CEO/president of the Nassau Health Care Corporation, Arthur Gianelli; the president of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, Walter Skinner; Steve Perrick, president-elect of the East Meadow Kiwanis Club; Helen Meittinis, president of the Community Association of Stewart Avenue; Craig Roberts, commissioner of East Meadow Baseball; Debbie Kirsch, school board member; and Jerry Walsh, of the East Meadow Soccer Club.
