Ending on a high note in Rockville Centre

Posted

Members of the Rockville Centre Liberty played their last formal game as a Rockville Centre Soccer Club travel team on June 10 at the Field of Dreams in Massapequa. It was very fitting that they were matched against their rivals, the Massapequa Lady Hurricanes in their finale. Despite the fact that the Liberty was short handed and forced to play a man down for most of the game, they came away victorious with a 3 – 1 final score.

As has been the case with the RVC Liberty for the past nine years, they rose to the occasion and worked together as a team. They moved the ball beautifully around the Lady Hurricanes, finding the seams to complete passes, stormed the open spaces to take offensive action and attack the final third.

Their coach said that it is hard to see the RVC Liberty retire their club name and jerseys and end their run as a team. They are fun-loving group that has reaped many successes, including winning the Division One title of the LIJSL on three occasions, (they also came in second place many times). They were finalists for the Long Island Cup on two occasions, the MSC Winter College Showcase Champions, and winners of the LIJSL Sportsmanship Title several times. During all of this the girls developed a love for the beautiful game and solidified friendships that will last a lifetime. Many of them are scholar athletes on their way to prestigious institutions such as University of Pennsylvania, Binghamton University, Manhattan College, Providence College and Coastal Carolina.

Their coaches wish them all the best as they continue their education and encourage them to return to play soccer in Rockville Centre at the annual alumni game and the Kick for a Cure.
