E.nopi opens doors in Malverne

They’re parents, they’re teachers, and now they’re the owners of a brand new children’s learning center in Malverne.

Last week, Demi Mikedis and Christina Bogdanos — with their respective husbands Harry and Steve — officially opened E.nopi Learning Center, a business that offers instruction for children ages 3 to 16 in the subjects of math, reading and writing, at 304 Hempstead Ave.

E.nopi is a supplemental tutoring program intended to help improve comprehension and listening, and critical and basic thinking skills. The program is individualized to meet the needs to each child in order to target specific strengths and weaknesses, according to E.nopi’s website, enopimathreading.com.

“The E.nopi program is designed to expand students’ perspectives by encouraging them to become self-motivated, independent and proactive learners, and allowing them to be at the core of all learning activities,” reads the website.

It is this approach to learning that drew Mikedis, a former teacher at the Herricks school district, and Bogdanos, a 35-year-old speech pathologist at an elementary school in Massapequa.

“I fell in love with the philosophy of E.nopi,” Mikedis, 32, told the Herald on Aug. 11, when she and Bogdanos held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their grand opening. “E.nopi stands for the eye level of a child, working at the level of a child.”

Upon moving into Malverne with her husband and son about a year ago, Mikedis said she quickly recognized the need for a tutoring center. The empty building where E.nopi now stands “looked exactly as a setup of a learning center should look,” she said. “There are not too many enrichment centers around here. A lot of families are always looking for something for their child.”

Beyond the reception area, Mikedis noted, the modified building contains two rooms: one for pre-school kids and another room for grade level and older. The enrichment center is open year-round with flexible hours to accommodate varying schedules: fall hours run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
