America the Beautiful and SPLASH (Stop Polluting, Littering and Save Harbors), a nationally renowned group dedicated to waterways preservation, will ferry volunteers from the Albany Avenue municipal boat landing in the Village of Freeport to the cleanup site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cleanup is expected to run until about 4 p.m. (To get to the boat landing from Merrick, take Merrick Road west over the bridge into Freeport, make the first left and head down about 1/2 block. The landing is on the left-hand side of the road.
