Music soothes the soul.
That’s why Sarah Romanelli, hosted a community event called “Music Inspires” at Oceanside High School on Saturday, May 3. Romanelli talked to a group of attendees about how she has come to be an accomplished violinist and how important music has been in her life.
The event, approved by Dr. Phyllis Harrington, superintendent of the Oceanside School District, helped Romanelli earn the prestigious Girl Scouts Silver Award. More importantly, all proceeds will go to the Long Island Arts Alliance’s Art Alive Program. About 25 youngsters attended the event.
As part of the program, kids got to play games like musical chairs and musical bingo, as well as sing karaoke.
Romanelli talked about the importance of music in a child’s life and the benefits it affords them, like greater self-confidence and a feeling of accomplishment.
Romanelli and other Girl Scouts who completed their requirements received awards and were recognized on May 5 at Oceanside High School. The Oceanside Association of Girl Scouts presented the awards along with citations from representatives of County Executive Edward Mangano’s office.
