Fall Fest headed to town

Posted
There will be give-aways, a crafts fair, blow-up rides for children and even a bubble-gum blowing contest. Also, be sure to stop by the Merrick Herald booth. We'll be giving away sample newspapers and other goodies throughout the weekend.
The festival will take place in the heart of Merrick's downtown shopping district, just north of Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Rail Road station. Chamber president Sal Vassallo, owner of the Vassallo Insurance Agency, promises that there will be more rides this year, and that discounted advance ticket sales are available in many area stores.
Children can also enjoy the petting zoo, and there's plenty for adults to do. There will be entertainment, an antique car show, located near the rides, and a car-seat safety check station, run by the police. And don't forget your bathing suit, since there'll also be a dunk tank.
The festival is important for Merrick, since the proceeds pay for the holiday lights seen all over town each year. And it's also a great way to catch up with friends and enjoy quality time with family. Indeed, with so many offerings, the festival is a great way to celebrate the coming of fall.
Fall Festival hours are: Friday, Sept. 16, 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 17., 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (516) 378-7177.
