F.D. corrals Woodoak fire

Posted

The Baldwin Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from a house at 470 Woodoak Drive at approximately 1 a.m. Nov. 2. When firefighters arrived they found an active fire, but after making their way into the home, they had the blaze under control within an hour.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Smith, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined as the Herald went to press. There were no reported injuries to members of the family living in the house or among Fire Department personnel, Smith said. After they escaped from the fire safely, the family was given food and clothing by the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross reminds Long Islanders that as temperatures drop, the incidence of house fires tends to increase. The organization suggests that residents make sure heating sources are inspected and cleaned and that when space heaters are used, they be kept at least three feet away from flammable materials.
