"The trailer flipped over when the driver couldn't negotiate the turn," North Bellmore Fire Department First Assistant Chief Al Boland explained at the scene as a tow truck operator attached a electric winch to pull the truck upright. "There were no injuries."
The incident took place at Newbridge Road and Columbus Avenue just after 3 p.m. on Sept. 21.
Firefighters evacuated residents from the immediate area and contained a small diesel oil spill from the truck by spreading a sand-like absorbent material, a precaution particularly important because there is a Mobil gas station at the corner. Columbus Avenue was blocked off for about an hour until the truck was turned upright and removed.
