If you don’t know what to do with Aunt Sally’s Hummel figurine that’s gathering dust in the living or that box of vinyl records in the attic, Lou Kahn and Ken Farrell can help. The pair joins forces Friday through Sunday for South Nassau’s biggest roadshow ever.
Roadshow events, such as the one being held in Lynbrook this weekend, are a terrific opportunity for people to sell their antiques and collectibles if they so choose.
If you have been waiting for the right time and place to sell your collection or family treasures, wait no more. With over 45 years of combined experience, Farrell, from Just Kids Nostalgia of Huntington, and Kahn, from Bakertowne Valley of West Hempstead, will be set up all weekend-long at the Holiday Inn Express in Lynbrook. Bring your collection over and they will give you a fair appraisal.
Kahn is known as “the Hummel King.” He travels all over the country to buy large collections of Hummels, Lladros, Toby Mugs, Lalique, Fenton Glass, Royal Doulton, and other top of the line collectible figurines and glassware. This weekend he will stay in his own back yard for a change. “I am hoping to purchase over 1,000 pieces at this three day buying fest, Kahn says. “You bring the Hummels, I will bring the bubble wrap.”
Farrell is the nostalgic guy on the team. He loves those childhood memories in the form of popular culture artifacts. He loves anything about the movies, TV, radio, music or comics. “We still love Howdy Doody, Roy Rogers, Captain Video, Orphan Annie, and the like,” he says. If you had it as a kid, Farrell wants it – lunch boxes, bubble gum cards or movie posters, vintage photographs, and pinback buttons. Also, don’t forget about original illustration art, cereal boxes and comic books. Yes, all those wonderful toys from the depression era through the 1970s. And don’t forget those vinyl records. Both of these guys have run successful mail order businesses for years. Where do they get the goods? “From folks like you” says Kahn. “We are always looking for interesting, rare and unusual collectibles.”
