Island Park Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 1 Long Beach Rd. on Aug. 20 at 1 p.m.

According to Anthony D’Esposito, the first assistant chief, someone at the center had triggered the alarm pullbox, though no 911 calls had been made. The firefighters determined that the fire was contained to a single room on the second floor where files are kept.

The fire was extinguished within an hour of receiving the report. D’Esposito said that because the fire was at a nursing home, many departments were called in as a precaution in case of a full evacuation. Firefighters from Oceanside, Point Lookout, Long Beach and Baldwin were present, though all operations were uinder the direction of the chief of the Island Park department, Steve Ruscio.
