Ramona Butler, 17, of Hempstead; Shaun Hinson, 18, of Roosevelt; Tasmea Levins, 19, of Roosevelt; Terrel Norman, 18, of Brooklyn; Richard Paul, 15, of Floral Park; and Latisha Pressie, 25, of Rockville Centre were charged with first-degree robbery, criminal use of a firearm and two counts of first-degree attempted robbery on Oct. 30.
Fourth Precinct police said that the suspects attempted to rob two 24-year-old men on Grand Avenue in Baldwin at 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 29, and then confronted two teenage boys, robbing one of his wallet and $4, on Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre at midnight.
Just over an hour later, at 1:08 a.m. on Oct. 30, the six subjects confronted a 43-year-old man on Tilrose Avenue in Oceanside and attempted to rob him, according to detectives. "Basically, they confronted him and he ran immediately," Detective Sgt. Gary Schriffen told the Herald. "Three shots were fired - two missed, one hit him in the leg."
The suspects left the scene in a 2004 Mazda, and were stopped on Fourth Street in Oceanside at 1:28 a.m. by the Fourth Precinct patrol supervisor, Sgt. Patrick Reilly. Reilly found the loaded gun and arrested all six defendants. Schriffen said the gun was found on one of the suspects, but declined to say which one. "At this time we believe Terrel Norman was the shooter," Schriffen said.
Schriffen added that the sixth suspect, Richard Paul, was arraigned in First District Court for the robbery in Rockville Centre and the attempted robbery in Baldwin, but his case will be addressed in family court because of his age.
Asked if any of the six suspects were in gangs, Schriffen said, "We do not believe all of them were, but there's a possibility that some of them were, and that is a matter that is still under investigation."
The shooting victim was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital for treatment. "It was not a life-threatening wound, but he was treated and released," Schriffen said.
