Five Towns fire districts hold elections

Inwood Fire District
Mark L. Rolon runs unopposed for an Inwood Fire District commissioner's seat. The seat was vacated when current commissioner Thomas Lynch chose not to run for another five-year term. Lynch's term officially expires on Dec. 31.
Rolon is a former fire chief of the Inwood Fire Department, who served that role from 1997 to 1999.
Voting hours on Tuesday, Dec. 11 are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Inwood Fire District headquarters on 188 Doughty Boulevard, Inwood.
Inwood Fire District's Board of Commissioners holds its next general meeting on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m., also at its headquarters. For more information on the Inwood Fire District, call (516) 239-4324.
Meadowmere Fire District
In the Meadowmere Fire District, the incumbent Board of Commissioners Chairman Andrew Schmitt is being challenged by Ed Samuelson, a former commissioner.
The Meadowmere Fire District covers the area from Meadowmere Park, down Rockaway Turnpike to Peninsula Boulevard. It also serves several homes in North Woodmere.

Atlantic Beach Fire District
Incumbent Jeffrey S. Trott is unopposed in his bid for a five-year term as commissioner in the Atlantic Beach Fire District. Trott returns after serving a one-year term in 2006.
The Atlantic Beach Fire District begins at the gate of Silver Point Beach Club through Scott Drive in Atlantic Beach Estates. The Atlantic Beach Fire District encompasses both the services of the Long Beach Fire Department and the Atlantic Beach Fire and Rescue Squad.
Voting hours are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Atlantic Beach Fire and Rescue Squad headquarters on 1 Rescue Road, Atlantic Beach. Hewlett Bay Fire District

Incumbent Pat Tudda is running for re-election as a five-year term commissioner. Tudda is currently the vice-chairman of the Hewlett Bay Fire District Board of Commissioners.
Hewlett Bay Fire District serves Hewlett, the villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, parts of Woodmere and unincorporated areas of Lynbrook.

Woodmere Fire District
In another uncontested race, incumbent David Miller is running for re-election to a five-year term for the Woodmere Fire District's Board of Commissioners.
Miller enters the elections having already served one full-year term as a commissioner. Woodmere Fire District serves Woodmere and Woodsburgh.
Voting takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Woodmere Fire District on 20 Irving Place, Woodmere. For more information on the Woodmere Fire District, call (516) 374-0928.
Lawrence/Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inc.
Elections for the Lawrence/Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inc. were held on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Donovan Wright was re-elected as chief of the Lawrence/Cedarhurst Fire Department. Kevin McHugh and Emmanuel Paradiso were elected to seats on the Lawrence/Cedarhurst Fire District Board of Commissioners.
Since it Lawrence/Cedarhurst is an independent fire district, the votes come only from its membership. According to a fire official, about 95 percent of the department's membership turned out to vote.
