Floating dock at LBMC allows for enhanced water rescues

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Angie Cullin joined with officials from the Long Beach Medical Center to celebrate the launch of a new floating dock at the medical center’s emergency room. The new dock will allow first responder marine units and the general public to transport victims of boating accidents directly to the emergency room, saving vital time and ambulance usage.

“Thousands of boaters recreate in the waters off of the Long Beach barrier island,” Supervisor Murray said. “The new floating dock is a much needed community resource that will greatly aid victims of boating incidents in receiving prompt medical attention

on land.”

Hempstead Town built the floating dock to replace a dilapidated existing structure. Town workers also secured the dock from future nor’easter storms by sinking new pilings.

“Boaters who sustain injuries often need access to modern medical equipment available in local hospitals,” said Councilwoman Cullin. “A floating dock allows Hempstead Town’s Bay Constables, the Nassau County Police Department’s Marine Bureau as well as recreational boaters immediate access to the services of a high quality emergency room.”

“The new floating dock is an important health safety feature for all of our residents who enjoy the waters off of Long Island’s South Shore,” Murray concluded.
