The weather held out for the 43rd annual Huckleberry Frolic and Arts & Crafts Fair, held in Memorial Park on Saturday, June 9.
This popular fundraiser for the Grist Mill Museum, also located in the park, started with a parade of veterans and local organizations and officials, and bagpipe music by the Ancient Order of Hibernians GlorNa nGael Pipes & Drums (“The Voice of the Irish”) of Lynrook-Rockville Centre.
The Grist Mill honored retiring East Rockaway High School Principal Bill Fortgang for his years with the school.
The Town of Hempstead provided its mobile unit, offering passport services; the Nassau Masonic District sponsored Children’s Video and I.D. program; a baby parade was held at 11:30, and Rio Tae Jistsu Academy performed a women’s kickboxing demonstration, and the school’s students earned their new belts. The Dance Space put on a lively and colorful show.
The day also included lively music by D.J. Raphael, a hula hoop contest, children’s rides, an antique appraiser and raffles.
