The meeting, in which each member is asked to bring along a prospective member, creates an informal opportunity for local business members to get together and talk shop, as well as dine on donations from local eateries.
"We're an organization who works for the people," said new president Joseph Celano to open up the evening. "This is a great community to work and live in, and we want to get that message out."
Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilmen James Darcy and Ed Ambrosino, Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, Franklin Square Superintendent Tim Lafferty and Nassau Leg. Vincent Muscarella were among the invited guest who spoke to the packed house during dinner.      The Chamber also presented a plaque to Sal Palmeri of Archer A. Associates, Inc. in honor of his 50-plus years of doing business in Franklin Square. Palmeri, now semi-retired, started his business in 1952. After a number of moves, the company landed at 1040 Hempstead Tpke., where it's been for 27 years.
"This is a great honor," said Palmeri. "I hope to see you all 50 years from now so you can give me a 100 year plaque."
Palmeri thanked his staff, both present and former, and closed by saying, "Franklin Square is still the number one community in Nassau County."
The evening closed with a raffle of gifts donated by local merchants, including a lovely group of mums donated by Archer, Inc., and enjoyed thoroughly by Herald Editor Jerry Burke's mother.
