The Village of Island Park had originally received a grant for $250,000 from Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos for the repair of the road. But, after drawing up the plans, village officials realized that the money wouldnt be enough to do the full job that Deal Road requires.
"Now we are up to $375,000," said Island Park Mayor Jim Ruzicka. "We feel that's going to be a pretty good number to get a portion of the road done in a thorough way."
With an increase in funds, the scope of the project has also been increased. The project will now include redoing sections of curb and sidewalk that are in very bad condition. The resurfacing will even now extend out a small way into Suffolk Road.
"The plan is to go out for bid in January and start work in April," Ruzicka said. "We're looking at the window of opportunity where the school will be in recess during the spring break, and we're looking at doing the work in that time."
