Lieutenant Frank Sabella of the First Precinct said the they had received numerous calls reporting that illegal gambling was occurring at 343 Newbridge Road. Precinct Police Officers Peter Semetsis and Thomas Costello responded to the calls and knocked on the door. David Oberster, 35, of Lindenhurst, opened the door and officers saw in plain view 20 men playing cards at tables with chips and money. The officers arrested Oberster and seized over $6,000.
Oberster was charged with Second Degree Promoting Gambling and released on an appearance ticket and will return to the First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 24.
