Her latest film, "Little Shop of Wonders," chronicles the history of the gems, minerals and artifacts store that had graced Bedford Avenue for close to half a century.
The documentary presents the story of the store's owners, Mark Morgan and Rosalyn Anker, and their positive effect on their many long-time and fleeting customers, particularly children, who never quite saw a rock -- whether it was a fossil, meteorite or gemstone -- the same way after visiting.
"The store was a fixture in Bellmore for 48 years," Abbey said. "People came from all over to view their collections as well as to seek their advice about gemstones and healing."
The 17-minute film will be shown on July 16 at 2 p.m. at the Long Island International Film, which is being held from July 9 to 19 at the Bellmore Movies on Pettit Avenue in Bellmore.
In addition to a full slate of films, several other related events are also taking place during the week, including a wine-and-cheese reception, panels on scriptwriting and movie distribution, a filmmakers breakfast, an artist's lounge and other festivities.
