Eleven Hewlett Elementary School fourth and fifth graders participated in a Geography Bee on Jan. 29 in the school's auditorium. The students answered a variety of questions that required knowledge of basic and historical geography, including cultural regions and physical phenomena such as land-forms, climate and bodies of water. The oral bee ended in a tie between two fifth graders, Jason Badu and Elizabeth Maday. The championship tie-breaker questions were given in a written format that resulted in a win for Jason Badu, who now advanced from the school bee to the next level by completing a question booklet that will be scored to determine if he qualifies for the state bee.
