With NYSEA's Surf Week, the Chamber of Commerce street fairs, St. Mary's festival and carnival, WENCA's movie night on the beach and the LBWW 5K race and parade in the West End to welcome wounded soldiers and their families, there is certainly no shortage of events in Long Beach this weekend. Here's a roundup:

Long Beach Chamber of Commerce Street Fair on the Superblock

Shore Road between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Road. Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vendors, fun, food, games, inflatable rides and more. NYSEA's 4th Annual Surf Week

Wednesday, July 17 to Sunday, July 21 at National Boulevard. It features surf contests, skateboard contests, family night on the beach, concerts and much more. For a full schedule of events and more information visit www.nysea.com. 

St. Mary of the Isle Parish Annual Family Festival

Monroe Boulevard and East Park Avenue. Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, from 5 to 11 p.m. There will be international foods, children’s rides, games and gambling. Waterfront Warriors 5K Race and Parade

Sunday, July 21, at 8 a.m. at West Broadway and New York Avenue. Early registration (postmarked by July 17): $20. Late Registration: $25 on day of race, from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Long Beach Catholic Regional School. Free for all active military personnel (must show ID at time of registration). At 3 p.m., the annual Welcome Parade for the soldiers will take place and proceed from Ohio Avenue to New York Avenue along Beech Street, followed by a barbecue at Long Beach Catholic Regional. For more information and to register, visit www.lbwaterfrontwarriors.org.


WENCA’s Movie Nights on the Beach

The West End Neighbors Civic Association will host its Movie Night on the Beach on Sunday, July 21, at 8:30 p.m., on Virginia Avenue beach. The movie will be “Jack the Giant Slayer.” The ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds. Please tell your neighbors and come join us for this family friendly event.

Temple Zion “Shabbat on the Beach”

Friday, July 19 at Maryland Avenue (weather permitting); Nachamu Eve on the Beach; Mincha at 6:45 p.m., followed by Kabbalat Shabbat at 7 p.m. Maariv followed by Shabbat Dinner ($18/per person) at Temple Zion at 8 p.m. Please bring your own beach chair.

Arts in the Plaza

Every Saturday in Kennedy Plaza during the summer from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Featuring handmade arts and crafts by local artists. Kids’ station from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Performances, art demos and workshops start at 12 p.m. Musical performances run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit www.ArtsInThePlaza.com.

Kennedy Plaza Farmer’s Market

Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The farmer’s market sells certified organic vegetables and greens, including Long Island corn, a variety of fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fish, wine, baked goods, soap and more.
